Astrophysics The Best of all Science! Spring, 2007
Professor: John Patrick Lestrade Venue: Hilbun, 152 Course: Physics 3063, Section 1. Book: Introduction to Modern Astrophysics (2nd ed.) by Carroll and Ostlie.
Welcome to Astrophysics for 2007 ! This course is intended for upper-level Physics & Astronomy majors. Modern Physics (PH3613) is a corequisite, although this may be
waived in exceptional cases.
How to succeed. Keep up with the weekly problem assignments. There will be a short quiz on the due date that is based on the homework.
Grading (Tentative): Your grade will be determined from the weighted average of 3 exams (17% each), average of homework quizzes (14%), a data-analysis project (10%), and a comprehensive final (25%). The first exam is tentatively set for (February 6).
Miscellany: If you are more than 15 minutes late for an exam, you may not be allowed to take it.
If you are officially auditing, you must attend 80% of the classes -- including exam dates.
I often email the class as a whole through the MSU Banner address list. Be email-aware. Specifically, check your email regularly when you are in
my class. Furthermore, make sure that your MSU email is properly forwarded to the inbox you most often check.
